Short answer: Yes, you can schedule Instagram posts for free. In the Instagram app, build your post as usual, tap More options, turn on Schedule this post, pick a date and time, then tap Schedule. You need a public account. On a computer, use Meta Business Suite: click Create post, choose your Instagram account, add the media and caption, then choose a date and time. To send the same post to Instagram and other platforms at one time, use a scheduler like Socialync.

Instagram's Help Center says a public account can schedule up to 25 posts a day, up to 30 days ahead (checked in Chrome, October 2026). Meta's Meta One Advanced, Expert and Max plans stretch that to a year (Meta Help Center, checked October 2026).

I'm Jack. I built Socialync, so the last method below is my product, and I'll say so when we get there. If your post only goes to Instagram, Meta's free tools cover it.

Three ways to schedule an Instagram post

Instagram app Meta Business Suite Socialync
Where you use it Instagram app on your phone Desktop, or the Business Suite app Browser, iPhone or Android app
Where the post goes Instagram Instagram and Facebook Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook and more
How far ahead 30 days (365 on some Meta One plans) See Meta's Business Help Center 2 months on the free plan, 12 months on paid plans
Cost Free Free Free plan: 5 posts a month. Paid plans from $20 a month

Pick by where the post is going:

  • Instagram only, from your phone: the Instagram app.
  • Instagram and Facebook, from a computer: Meta Business Suite.
  • Instagram plus TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, X and others: a scheduler.

How to schedule a post in the Instagram app

These are Instagram's own steps from its Help Center, checked October 2026. You need a public account.

  1. Tap Create in the top left (or swipe right anywhere in Feed), then tap Post or Reel.
  2. Pick your photo, video or several photos for a carousel, and tap Next.
  3. Add your caption, effects or filters.
  4. Tap More options.
  5. Turn on Schedule this post (or Schedule this reel) and choose the date and time.
  6. Tap Done, tap Back, then tap Schedule.

Instagram's page lists what won't work on a scheduled post: product tagging, collaborative posts, sponsored posts and fundraisers.

The same flow handles single photos, carousels and Reels. For Reel specifics, read how to schedule Instagram Reels.

Where scheduled posts live and how to edit them

This is the question behind "how to see scheduled posts on Instagram," and the answer depends on where you scheduled the post.

Scheduled in the Instagram app: open your profile, tap Menu in the top right, and below Your insights and tools tap Scheduled content. Tap Options next to a post to pick Delete, Edit post, Reschedule or Share now. You can also tap Create, then Scheduled, to reach the same list (Help Center).

Scheduled in Meta Business Suite: click Content in the left menu, open Posts & reels and select Scheduled. Click the ... icon, then Manage post, to edit, reschedule or delete it (Meta Business Help Center).

Scheduled in Socialync: open your calendar. Every scheduled post sits on its day. Click one to change it or move it to another time.

Tip: a post shows up only in the tool that scheduled it. If you can't find a post, you probably scheduled it somewhere else.

Which formats you can schedule on Instagram

Format Instagram app Socialync
Single photo Yes Yes, as a Feed Post
Carousel Yes Yes, several images in one Feed Post
Reel Yes Yes, as Reels
Story Not listed on Instagram's scheduling page Yes, one image or video per Story

Socialync's composer offers Feed Post, Reels and Story for Instagram, with Story for a single image or video. Instagram's API takes no caption on a Story, so a Story goes out as the media alone.

How to schedule one post to Instagram and other platforms with Socialync

When the same post also goes to TikTok, Facebook or LinkedIn, scheduling it in each app means a new upload, a new caption and a new time every round. A cross-platform scheduler takes one upload and posts it everywhere at the time you pick.

Post to all your platforms in one click

Socialync lets you cross-post to TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, and Pinterest, with AI-powered captions for each platform. Free to start.

  1. Connect your accounts once. Sign up free, open Settings, then Connections, and connect Instagram plus any other platform. Instagram needs a Business or Creator account.
  2. Add your media. Start a post and upload your photo, carousel images or video.
  3. Tick the platforms. Instagram plus Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn or any other connected account.
  4. Write your caption. It goes to every platform you ticked. To change it for one platform, open that platform's tab and write a caption there.
  5. Choose the Instagram format. Feed Post, Reels or Story.
  6. Click Schedule and pick the time. The time is in your own time zone.

On the free plan you can schedule up to 2 months ahead, and one post sent to five platforms counts as one of your 5 posts for the month. Paid plans start at $20 a month, schedule up to 12 months ahead and have no post limit. See the pricing page.

Want a second pair of hands? Socialync also works from an AI assistant. The ChatGPT guide shows how to schedule Instagram posts from a chat.

More on the platform side: Socialync for Instagram, and a pair page like Instagram to Facebook if you repost across Meta's apps.

When to stay in the Instagram app

Socialync is a good fit when a post goes to several platforms. Stay in Instagram's own scheduler when you need something that only exists inside the app: a song from Instagram's music library, for example. Schedule that one in the app.

Pick a good time

A scheduled post only helps if it lands when your audience is awake. Start with our best time to post on Instagram guide, then check your own insights after a few weeks and move the slots.
