How to Schedule Instagram Posts with ChatGPT

Connect Instagram to Socialync
Create a free Socialync account (no card), open Settings, then Connections, and connect Instagram. Instagram's API publishes to professional accounts (Business or Creator); switching a personal account takes a minute in the Instagram app.

Add the Socialync connector in ChatGPT
In ChatGPT open Settings, then Connectors, turn on Developer mode, and create a connector with the URL https://mcp.socialync.io/mcp. Choose OAuth. A browser tab opens, you sign in to Socialync and pick the brand ChatGPT may manage. No API key to paste.

Give ChatGPT the image and the caption
Instagram rejects text-only posts, so drop the image into the chat or paste a public image URL. Up to 10 images makes a carousel. Paste your caption or ask ChatGPT to write one from a transcript, a link, or a rough idea.

Say when
Type "schedule this to Instagram for Thursday at 9am". ChatGPT validates the post against Instagram's limits, then schedules it. The free plan schedules 2 months ahead, paid plans 12 months.

Confirm, then check the calendar
ChatGPT shows the caption, image, platform, and time and waits for your yes. Once confirmed, the post lands in your Socialync calendar, where you can edit, move, or delete it like any other scheduled post.

- Instagram needs an image or a video on every post. A text-only post fails validation before it ever reaches Instagram.
- Video is scheduled, never instant. Instagram processes uploads for a few minutes, and pretending otherwise produces failed posts.
- 5 AI-created posts a day per brand on free, 10 on paid, to stay under Meta's spam thresholds.
- Free plan: 5 posts a month, 2 months of scheduling. Paid from $20/month: unlimited posts, 12 months.
- ChatGPT writes the caption itself. Socialync's own AI caption generator is a paid-plan feature and is a separate thing.
- Nothing publishes without you. ChatGPT confirms in the chat, or saves a draft you approve in the app.
Frequently asked questions
Can ChatGPT post to Instagram on its own?
No. ChatGPT has no publishing rights on Instagram by itself; it needs a connector that does. Socialync's MCP server is that connector. Posts go out through the Instagram account you connected with OAuth, and ChatGPT shows you the post and waits for a yes before it publishes.
Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan?
Custom connectors live under Developer mode in ChatGPT's settings, and OpenAI decides which ChatGPT plans include that. Socialync's side is free: the MCP server is included on the free plan.
Does it work with a personal Instagram account?
Instagram's API only publishes to professional accounts, which means Business or Creator. Switching is free: Instagram app, Settings, Account type and tools, Switch to professional account. Takes about a minute and changes nothing about your profile.
Can ChatGPT schedule Instagram Reels?
Yes, as a scheduled post. Upload the video in Socialync (or give ChatGPT a public video URL), then ask it to schedule the Reel. Video is scheduled rather than published on the spot because Instagram takes a few minutes to process it.
