What We Talked About

First in-person episode of the podcast. I sat down with Quinn Fukawa in San Diego right after TechCon. Quinn co-founded Quant and the 100 with Antonio Nguyen, a global community of early-stage startup founders building in public together. The whole thing started with one video back in November. They posted it, went to sleep, and woke up to it blowing up overnight. By the next day they had 100+ founders applying to join.

Quinn also sells residential real estate in the Phoenix metro, so we got into the stuff nobody warns you about. Real estate has a 70 to 80% first-year dropout rate. The content side is brutally oversaturated. And most agents treat content like a trophy that proves they are transacting, instead of a funnel that actually pulls in new clients. Quinn breaks down shiny object syndrome, why you have to be "the Phoenix guy" before you can be anything bigger, and the commercial real estate opportunity hiding in Arizona's empty malls and post-Covid office space.

Then we got to the part I care about most. Quinn admitted posting to every platform by hand was a pain, and that he never realized it was a real problem until he heard what we built. So we set him up. Now he uploads once and Socialync sends it to Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube at the same time. We close on his best advice: everything takes 3x longer than you plan for, and the only thing that wins over eight months is grit.

Key Moments

  • One video, 100 founders overnight - Quinn and Antonio posted in November, went to sleep, and woke up to 100+ applications to join the community
  • Real estate has one of the highest quit rates of any job - Why 70 to 80% of agents wash out in year one, and how to not be one of them
  • Shiny object syndrome - Why a niche inside a niche keeps you alive when every party in a real estate deal has a hand in your pocket
  • Content is a funnel, not a trophy - Most agents only make content for the 1 to 5% of people already ready to buy, and ignore everyone else
  • The game of zero - Why food and real estate content keeps escalating, and how to win by being the one who does something different
  • How Quinn uses Socialync to cross-post - One upload to Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube instead of posting the same video three times by hand
  • 400 views on 6 platforms beats 400 views on 1 - The math that made cross-posting click for Quinn
  • The long game - Why everything takes 3x longer than you plan for, and why grit beats talent at eight months in
