Every usage grant answers two separate questions: where can the brand post this, and can the brand pay to put media spend behind it. Organic rights answer the first: the brand can share the video on its own Instagram or TikTok account, its website, or its email list, the same way it would share any content it owns. Paid rights answer the second and cover running the content as an ad through the brand's ad account, targeting audiences well beyond the brand's own followers.
The two rarely cost the same. Organic posting reaches whoever already follows the brand. Paid usage can put a creator's face in front of millions of strangers as an ad, with the brand controlling the spend, the targeting, and how long it runs. A creator who prices only "usage rights" as one line risks giving away paid rights at organic-only pricing, since a brand will read a vague grant as broadly as it can.
On Socialync's job board, a listing states which rights are included, organic, paid, or both, and for how long, before a creator applies. The terms are set on the listing and are not renegotiated after.
