Do Hashtags Really Matter?
Hey everyone, I’m Jack Vitick, founder of Socialync.
Let’s talk about something that seems small... but is one of the biggest reasons why videos fail or take off: hashtags.
Why Hashtags Still Matter
If you make a video about golfing... maybe you hit an incredible albatross or you’re teaching someone a new swing technique... it doesn’t matter how great that video is if you never tell the algorithm what it’s about.
That’s what hashtags do.
They’re how you talk to the algorithm.
When you use tags like #Golfing, #GolfTechnique, #Albatross, or #GolfLesson, you’re not just decorating your caption — you’re telling the platform who to show your content to.
If you skip this, your video gets shown to random users. And random users scroll right past content they don’t care about.
The Marketing Connection
Think of hashtags like Google Ads keywords.
When someone searches “water heater repair,” Google knows to show them ads from businesses that fix water heaters.
Hashtags do the same thing for content.
If a user’s entire feed is about golf and your video doesn’t include any golf-related tags, the algorithm has no clue it belongs in that person’s feed.
So instead of being delivered to golf lovers... your video lands in front of people who couldn’t care less.
And when that happens, your video tanks.
How Algorithms Decide Who Sees You
If you’ve read my last post — The Real Reason Creators Burn Out (And How to Beat It)) — you’ll remember how I explained that every video gets a test run.
The algorithm shows your content to about 100 people first.
If they engage, it sends it to 1,000 more... then 10,000... and so on.
But if those first 100 people aren’t your target audience because you didn’t use proper hashtags, your video will flop right there.
It dies before it even had a chance to live.
How to Use Hashtags the Right Way
Here’s the simple rule:
Always tell the algorithm exactly what your content is about.
Use hashtags that match your niche, your topic, and your audience.
Combine broad ones like #Golf with specific ones like #GolfLessons or #HowToSwing.
This helps the system categorize your content correctly and reach the right people faster.
Also, don’t forget about your text, thumbnail, and description — all of these are signals too.
When they match your hashtags, you build a clear story for the algorithm to follow.
Why I Built Socialync for This
This is exactly why I made Socialync.
When I was posting content, I’d waste so much time writing the same hashtags and captions over and over across different platforms.
Socialync lets you store all your hashtags, write one optimized description, and post it everywhere in one click.
No more bouncing between apps typing the same thing.
You save time, energy, and stay consistent — which means more videos, better targeting, and faster growth.

Final Thoughts
Hashtags aren’t old-school. They’re essential.
They tell platforms what your video is about, who it’s for, and why it matters.
If you skip them, you’re leaving your reach up to chance.
If you use them intentionally, you’re stacking the deck in your favor.
And with tools like Socialync, you can organize all your tags, post them everywhere, and focus on what really matters: creating great content.
